3DFX Voodoo blank screen but working passthrough

Here is yet another great example of how you can just continuously tinker with old hardware. Over the past few days, I swapped several graphics cards in my systems and, among other things, equipped a Windows 95 system with a Diamond Stealth 2000 Pro (S3 ViRGE/DX). The passthrough to the Voodoo 1 worked flawlessly right off the bat, and the image quality is very good.

However, when testing Turok Dinosaur Hunter, reality set in: no 3dfx logo, and the monitor went straight into standby. Yet, you could hear the game audio coming from the speakers, so it seemed like the 3dfx card simply wasn’t outputting a video signal.

After swapping out all the drivers and even reinstalling DirectX to no avail, I took another look at the 3dfx Voodoo settings—and lo and behold: for some reason, ‘Sync Glide to Refresh’ was turned off. Once the box was checked again and the PC was rebooted, it finally worked.
